Every Wednesday Karl Thurmond hosts an open mike at Captain Jack's in Sumner - across from the Old Cannery. As he says - "friendly folks, new owners, good food & talented people. Check us out"
When speaking of talented people, the first person I think of is Karl Thurmond. A transplant from Amarillo, Texas, Karl picked up a guitar after watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Over forty years of practice and he is amazing. I've seen entire rooms fall silent when he takes the stage so they won't miss a note. If you are a 70's relic, you have to hear his "Stairway to Gilligan."
Karl is a gifted songwriter as well. Funny, sad, irreverant, political, historical, poignant - his brain focuses on a subject and it gifts us with a song. From love to boot camp, hangovers to lingerie Karl has a viewpoint set to music.
You have to see Karl Thurmond. He is simply one of the best.
