Some of my favorite

Carole Kapeliela & the other Carol

I've collected hearts for over 30 years, so in honor of "Heart" Day I thought I'd write about some of my favorite people and where you can find them this week, and in the days ahead. . .

Carole Kapeliela is at O'Gallaghers this Saturday from 5-7.  Besides Bud Schulz on keys and Gary Orr on drums, she is thrilled to have Alexey Nikolav on sax.  His credentials are amazing - trained in Moscow, played with a premiere Russian big band, moved to the Seattle area in 2000 and earned a stellar reputation in the jazz community here.  I'll be there working a camera and can't wait to hear him.

My boss Jesse Rivera may sit in with Sandy Harvey down at Dock Street Landing starting at 8pm.  Sandy is one of the best jazz piano players in the area as well as a very nice guy.  My boss is a talented bass player and singer.  What a great Valentine's day show - romantic music and a water view besides.

Up the road at Wizard Casino in Burien will be Glenn Harrell starting at 8:30.  Great guitar, great voice - and a giggle that will make you laugh.  More on Glenn when he plays Woody's on the Water on the 20th.

Dustin Lafferty is the new host of the Monday Acoustic Open Mic at Inni's in Lakewood.  Sign up starts at 7:30.  I can't say enough good about Dustin - I love his songs, love his voice, love his wife & kids.  He's just a talented, witty, wonderful man who gets inspired listening to other songwriters and is one of the best open mic hosts in the area.

Another great host & musician - Karl Thurmond - still has his open mic's on Wednesday in Sumner - Captain Jacks to be exact.

Whatever you do this Heart day, I hope there is a little time for great music and the person you love. . .
